Campaigning Never Ends in the Philippines


Earlier this afternoon, we chanced upon a small event on the corner of Canley and Kamuning Roads in Bagong Ilog, Pasig City.  We saw congratulatory flowers on stands and there were huge speakers blaring out "Let's Get Physical" on the other side of the road.  There were Pasig City police standing guard on both sides of the street.  And then there was this: a huge tarpaulin announcing that the mayor is doing his job.  "Serbisyong Totoo!", it reminded us.

I had thought of hanging out and waiting for the mayor to drop in, maybe tell him that, "Sir, tapos na po ang election season."

Yeah, only in the Philippines.  The campaigning never stops.  What a shame.
